After more than a decade of photographing weddings

After more than a decade of photographing weddings, I've learned one simple truth...

No photographer captures everything.

Not because we aren't looking.
Not because we aren't experienced.

Because a wedding day is beautifully, wonderfully alive.

Moments happen all at once. A father takes a quiet breath before walking his daughter down the aisle. A flower girl twirls when no one is watching. Friends burst into laughter while someone else quietly wipes away a tear.

Experience doesn't mean being everywhere.

It means learning where to be.

It's why I spend just as much time photographing the details as I do the big moments. The invitation you carefully chose. The rings you'll wear for a lifetime. The shoes, the dress, the perfume, the flowers... every piece tells part of your story.

Years from now, these won't simply be beautiful photographs.

They'll be the little things that bring you back to exactly how that day felt.

That's why I'll never stop chasing both the moments you expect... and the ones you never realized you'd treasure the most.

I don't always know why certain images belong in black and white.

Sometimes they just do.

Maybe it's because removing color makes you notice the expression a little more. The light a little more. The emotion a little more.

Or maybe there isn't a reason at all.

Maybe some photographs simply ask to be remembered this way.

Years later, I still find myself returning to this wedding day and these frames. Proof that the moments we hold onto most were never about the colors we saw...

They were about the feelings we felt.

6 years of spring sessions with @evolvestudiofortheartsofficial 🤍

Two weeks of music, movement, laughter, organized chaos, costume changes, nervous energy, and some of the most creative moments I get to photograph all year.

What I love most is watching these dancers grow.

Some of these kids walked into my studio years ago shy and uncertain… and now they move with confidence, emotion, and artistry that stops you in your tracks.

Every pose tells a story.
Every dancer brings something different.
And every year somehow becomes more special than the last.

Grateful for the instructors, parents, and dancers who continue trusting me to help document these moments season after season.

I truly wouldn’t trade the chaos for anything🤍

The final senior session of graduation season.

Tomorrow night the tassels turn, names are called, and another chapter closes.
But before all of that… there are moments like these.

A shared favorite song (#41 – Dave Matthews Band) during our consultation somehow set the tone before the session ever began.

Golf sunsets.
Country roads.
Quiet moments.
Big dreams.
The next chapter waiting ahead.

Senior portraits have never just been about graduation to me.

From a two-year-old behind a drum set… to the next chapter at Auburn University.
Music has always been part of Dominic’s story.

Marching band.
Concert band.
Jazz band.
Late nights.
Performances.
Practice rooms.
Friendships.
Memories.

This year he was honored with the John Philip Sousa Band Award, recognizing his dedication and achievement in instrumental music — a moment our family will never forget.

This fall he begins pursuing Music Education at Auburn University, and while we’re all a little emotional watching him leave this chapter behind, we could not be more proud of the person he has become.

This session felt like Alabama summer wrapped into one senior shoot.

Creek mud on the graduation gown.
A truck that tells its own story.
Sunset skies.
Backroads.
ATVs.
Boots.
And a senior year worth remembering.

A few years ago I photographed Mason’s sister’s senior portraits, so getting to reconnect with this family again for another huge milestone was incredibly special.

Instead, we got clouds all evening long.

But some people shine regardless of the forecast.

I’ve had the privilege of capturing the Kervin family over the years… and this time, it felt different in the best way.

This time, it was Mylee’s turn.

We spent the evening walking the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham — taking our time, chasing light, and letting each moment unfold naturally. No rush, no pressure… just a chapter quietly coming to a close while another one waits just ahead.
