One of my favorite venues to shoot wedding’s at is Oak Island Antebellum at Lay Lake here in Alabama. The suites and home the couple get ready in are just ridiculously gorgeous to photograph in. There’s not one bad spot to photograph outside around the property either, as it is surrounded by water with piers and lookouts. There’s a barn on the property that is beautifully lit with string lights that Tori & Kane opted to hold their reception in. For a day in May which a few days out called for 70% chance of rain, it was an absolutely brilliant lighting kind of day with blue skies, a constant breeze, and beautiful green grass. Tori was a super super, super calm bride all day, and very much spiritual in prayer with her bridesmaids often throughout the day. The moment her father saw her in her dress as he prepared to walk her down the aisle was a magical moment filled with happiness and pride. It was a very rare and humbling experience being witness to the bride and groom washing each other’s feet during the ceremony and was amazing to photograph. Sparks flew during portraits of the two of them, which makes my job really really easy. Did I mention the lighting was perfect? I always ask my couples if they would like to sneak away during the reception for some night time portraits and these night time portraits were some of my favorites that I’ve ever taken. Their families were beautiful to work with as always, and the mother of the bride was extra special for this wedding too. Just candidly amazing all day!
