In my early advertising career I worked with our groom Lance at Cumulus Broadcasting here in Montgomery. While I was there working in the production department, Lance was in his second stint with the company as an Account Executive. During his first stint with the company he had made a name for himself as an on air personality “Lance La Party” for one of the stations there. Lance and I really enjoyed working together there in Radio, but he would eventually move off to the St. Louis area while I ended up leaving the company to start my own business. Over the years we managed to keep up with each other through social media.
Out of the blue, Lance gives me a ring to tell me he’s engaged to be married and then delivers more exciting news that he wants me to document his wedding day! I was completely thrilled to have their date open, and put their names on my calendar!! It’s a different feeling when someone you know asks you document their wedding day. Lance and his fiancé Erin came into town for a visit and I photographed their engagement session while they were here. Immediately I could see how happy Lance was, and how incredibly awesome Erin was to be around. The two of them together completely made sense, and most of all they were both radiant in happiness. To say the least we got several amazing images from their engagement session!
The wedding day came, with no surprise a very calm and collective vibe was in place the moment we walked in to gather all of the bridal details from Erin. Even though we show up rather early in the day to catch everything I can usually sense what kind of day it will be as soon as I get there. There was such a calming demeanor from Erin that was just contagious, and the same vibe emitted from her bridesmaids too carrying over throughout the entire day. Getting married in the chapel at Huntingdon College was a special place for Erin and her family. Surprisingly this was my first time ever photographing inside Huntingdon’s Chapel. Huntingdon is very rich with history, and a lot of it is a bit spooky. Erin and I both confessed after she received her images that we were both looking for spirits and orbs in every image we took from the area. HAHAHAHAHA!! It’s probably fortunate that neither of us have been able to spot any of the deceased in any images, at least not yet.
The grounds around the college are simply gorgeous, and even though we had some dark skies with rain earlier in the day sunshine was abundant by the afternoon. It was pretty incredible utilizing both inside and outside for pics, there’s so much to choose from that it’s impossible not to keep the day looking fresh even though we were at this venue for the majority of the day. Both Lance and Erin completely trusted myself and my team to capture their day as we wanted, which is just letting the day come to us not forcing anything. Totally can’t have enough couples like this, and for the most part this is 99.9% my clientele. It’s huge to come home from a wedding with gorgeous images and not have your body feel completely shredded. All of the portraits, ceremony images, and bridal details turned out magical in this location.
Our reception spot was the RSA Plaza Terrace which I am quite familiar with, the rooftop that overlooks the city’s downtown district is hard to beat. If you can catch the light right at sunset it’s breathtaking, we captured so much of the two of them as a married couple I was kind of afraid to suggest doing a few more on the rooftop. I did of course ask, and those images are some of my favorite of the day for sure. It was cool to see some old colleagues there at the reception, and catch the couple on the dance floor a few times throughout the night. The bubble send off was rad to see as the couple’s send off, kind of ironic that bubbles would send this calm couple off. I am so honored to be there for Lance and Erin, and humbled I was the first on his list to call. Big congrats to Mr. & Mrs. Mauldin, I can not thank them or tell them enough what a wonderful experience it was to spend this day with them. Literally the sweetest most pleasant couple on the planet!!! I can’t wait to see their love grow.
