From shooting a wedding up in north Alabama a couple weeks back, we now find ourselves in the southern part of Alabama in Pansey, AL. Pansey? Yes, I had never heard of it either until this wedding got on my calendar! Janae and Doug was one of those couples I met with several months before the wedding that knew exactly what they wanted. Well, Janae knew…..and Doug just said whatever she wants:-). I got to spend some time with the two of them during their engagement session, and some one on one time with Janae and her mother during her bridal session (which happens to be my favorite session to shoot btw). Having those pre-wedding sessions really does help with the familiarity that goes into wedding photography. Getting the opportunity to photograph Janae’s bridal session at the wedding venue really helped out a lot with getting a sense of the venue layout and where my source of light was coming from to have a plan ready for the day of. Really kind of hidden venue called Serendipity, when you first arrive you see some gorgeous horses immediately. Drive for a little bit past some wooded areas, and you come across this little gem right on the water. The bridal suite was rather modernized with a rustic feel, with central heating and air. Some of these outside venues don’t have that here (crazy)! Even the windows of the suite you could see out, but you couldn’t see in!! Just a really beautiful space tucked away from everything with a lot of privacy.
Janae and Doug are just really fun people be around, extremely light hearted and super comical. Loved photographing this couple so much, they both have so much personality with such a great sense of humor. Probably one of the most difficult aspects of portrait/wedding photography isn’t all of the technical aspects of photography that anyone can learn, but actually the non tech side of photography. That relationship between the person or persons and the photographer is kind of a big deal As a photographer that’s a challenge, because you can’t force that type of candidness and comfort between yourself and the subject. It’s either there or it’s not. I’ve had the pleasure of having that chemistry more so than I have not, but when it’s not there it make the process really difficult. Having that trust and building that relationship is great with pre-wedding sessions, but pre-wedding sessions don’t always happen…..it’s a luxury these days I’ll gladly take! I’m sure those sessions before the wedding helped tremendously, but here it was awesome to see that no one held back with pure genuine emotions! Love all of the incredible candids from this wedding day, it’s what makes this wedding such a special one for me in 2017. As a wedding photographer it’s all I can ask for from each bride and groom is to be themselves and be genuine in that. It makes all the difference in the world with the images you receive!!
Such a conglomeration of rich emotion in this wedding, from that anticipation…..to tears of sadness remembering those that couldn’t be there…..to the laughter of freedom to whatever happens next……..to the joys and the letting go of the next chapter in life for these two. This wedding had it all in one day. So much thoughtfulness and planning went into making this wedding day perfect for Janae and Doug. Loved the summertime vibes in all of the decor and floral, which made for really colorful images. The Alabama sky was near perfect for the reception as the sun drifted off, and the owners of this little secret venue right outside of Dothan were wonderful to work with! One beautiful southern summertime wedding in the books of some incredibly awesome southern folks!
