As a long time creative, photographing wedding days for quite some time now my biggest fear is everything looking the same. Which is why I’ve always remained conscious of avoiding preset trends, or to mimic another photographer that has inspired me. Naturally on a wedding day you do not have the luxury to being in control of anything about the day other than setting the timeline for that day. Whether it rains or snows, sunshine or darkness, daytime or nighttime, it doesn’t matter….you just have to roll with it. My images have a tendency to evolve and change each wedding, and my reputation isn’t defined by a specific photography style, it’s defined by quality and experience.
When I finished David & Mykeisha’s wedding day images, I always take one last look through before setting up the online gallery to share with the client. As I was taking one last view, I couldn’t help to notice just how different this day photographed. The tones, the landscape, the light, etc just looked like a Selma, Alabama. Which I thought to myself, “wow, what an awesome feeling to have for me as a photographer to really capture that in all of these images.” Just a really classic and vintage kind of feel to the day organically from start to finish.
The St. James Hotel is a really rad Hotel to work in, lots of little hidden spots throughout both inside and outside. Then right across the street Dana’s Floral Designs planner Jackie utilized this open space for a ceremony location, which definitely added to that Selma feel. Beautiful blue skies and incredible natural light lit this May day up. The hotel sits right on the Alabama River creating a really riveting and unique backdrop, it was easy to reserve this for the couple portraits.
On to the reception at the Selma Convention Center which was just a block or two from the ceremony site, as soon as you walk in you see this amazing gorgeous wedding cake from Barb’s cakes. Barb has an incredible gift to create these stunning cakes, but the catch is that they taste even better than they appear. Really rad head table in the back with just enough uplighting and wash on the walls to transform a very ordinary space into an exquisite space. Our couple, their friends & family, the fellow vendors were all an absolute joy to be around. Pretty easy and typical wedding day, no challenges to overcome….just a beautiful couple in a beautiful wedding scene!!!
