For some reason it never dawned on me during Ashley and Freddie’s engagement session that I was photographing a prestigious Alabama Crimson Tide football alum! It wasn’t until the wedding day as my assistant was hanging the bride’s dress glancing back at me saying, “wait….is the groom’s name Freddie Roach?”. Of course, I grinned and replied with….”yeah, do you know him?”. Then my assistant suddenly turned into a statistician, and was like “yeah man, he was a great player for the Crimson Tide!” Needless to say my assistant enjoyed seeing some more Crimson Tide alum there at the wedding as well. Mr. Roach here helped anchor an Alabama defense on the linebacker corps that finished the 2005 season ranked first in scoring defense, second in total defense, fifth in pass efficiency defense, and ninth in rushing defense. Even after hours of hanging out during their engagement session, Freddie never mentioned a word of being a football player. Which I found totally rad of him!
I worked with I Do! I Do! Wedding Planning on their wedding day which was beyond easy and a total pleasure to work……Ashley and her assistants made my job a breeze throughout the day. The church of the Highlands United Methodist in downtown Birmingham was gorgeous and the staff there were super easy to work with too. The reception was killer at Iron City Bham, just great food and an incredible location, with plenty of rad options to shoot at around the area. Crazy good band and entertainment with a lot of fun candids to capture at the reception. We even got to capture one of Freddie’s daughters celebrate her birthday on stage during the reception, which I thought was cool detail to add to the wedding day. The bride Ashley was totally gorgeous and has the most laid back quite personality. I’m still not sure how I get so lucky working with the best bride and groom a wedding a photographer could ask for….but it happens every time!
