Really, really, really enjoyed working with Ashley and all of her bridesmaids during this wedding! So relaxed, so much fun to be around, and we probably had the best light a natural photographer could ask for leading up to the ceremony. Ashely and Ben were both an incredibly sweet sweet couple to work with. Their families and friends also just as lovely to be around! Being a locally based Montgomery, Alabama wedding photographer I photograph quite frequently at recurring wedding venues. The Alley Station Warehouse and the Ballroom are definitely one of the local favorites by far, I think in 2017 alone I either have or will be here at this venue at least on 5-6 separate occasions. One of my biggest goals in wedding photography is to keep each bride’s wedding day truly unique and special for her. In doing that while visiting reoccurring wedding venues I’m constantly looking for a new approach or idea to document the day, which is always dictated by the availability of light. Downtown Montgomery is really a beautiful area to photograph in, but it’s still often populated heavily especially during the weekends!
It’s a 50/50 split on whether the bride utilizes the space up top to get ready in, but this area upstairs at the venue really has beautiful light all throughout. Sticking here for all of our details and bridal prep images was a easy decision. Shooting down in the Alley is a super popular spot for most photographers here, you’ve got two walls on each side of you which depending on the time of day you have very even light here. To be honest, it’s not an area I go to a lot just because it’s been so much. Every once in while I will utilize the space like I did here for portraits. Even though I had been here what feels like a billion times prior to this wedding I happened to find a new little balcony and a whole new perspective on the area!
Once the ceremony concluded we literally just walked a circle and stopped a long the way for couples portraits. Ben surprised Ashley with a beautiful heirloom that has been passed down in his family, and that exchange was pretty amazing to photograph. During the reception a lot of friends and family spoke candidly to and about this beautiful couple. A lot of laughter and a few tears were shared by us all. It’s always wonderful knowing you are working with genuine compassionate people, in the creative business working with anyone other than that will make you question everything. Your photography timeline will not be respected, your creativity will not thrive, and just your passion for a job like this can be squashed in a day. Fortunately for me, I have never had an experience like that before! It’s important for brides to understand that you hired your wedding photographer for a reason, and hopefully that reason is built on a huge fan of their work, trust that they know what they are doing, and your gut instinct after your consultation with how calm that photographer made you feel just discussing your wedding day! Trust me brides, it all goes a very long way!!
